Fatal Radiance-Chapter 2

Description

Alright, this chapter is even a bit longer then the last one and it was pretty fun to write. And quite a lot actually. I figured that starting it with a bit more humor (ergo Vidar playing a prank on Aldric which escalates quite a bit), but it did go into a direction in which I would then come to Leofwine's village and in a manner of speaking it got all corrupted. In more than one way, as the chieftain of that village is an asshole, just like his son. And... that's why Vidar had to beat him up. I like it when bullies get into such situations that they taste their own medicine... or manure, whatever works. well, now Khaba got the number 9, so he may be safe now... or not, we still have a lot of stuff coming for the guys.

Also, the funny wording of that one letter written by someone nobody is sure about his whereabouts.... a mild exaggeration of how Ancient Greek rhetoric is overly... well, Ancient Greek. I guess it is easy to guess that Hela is basically like Greece and the term either a bad joke on the name of the goddess Hera or refering to Hellenism or a mix of everything.

Now we also get a look on the two siblings of Leofwine: Lucile and Crawford. Not exactly helpless children if you consider they are building weapons in the night... crossbows did exist in Ancient Rome, but were much larger in most cases. A few centuries into the Roman Empire smaller models would appear. Lucile meanwhile... anybody familiar with Xena? Chakrams were potentially around in India more thn 2400 years ago, so it makes sense that Lucile got details by certain means and build one of her own. So, yeah they both are tinkerers if you want to put it like that. Tinkerers that may be able to kill with those things. Neat.

Hum, I do wonder if the night scene is romance or bromance... well, I will let the comments decide.

“Today I really had to deal with way too many jerks,” Has to be one of my favorite quotes Vidar had said that sums up a portion of this chapter for him, as I enjoyed reading about him ignoring the risk of confrontation with the guards just to put Durandt in his place, and it’s interesting to know about Leofwine‘s home along with his family and tragic backstory.
